The Gold Rush Museum
Perched above town in the old Auburn Depot Building, the very charming but small Gold Rush Museum packs a lot of great exhibits into a compact space. Hands-on exhibits, including a stream to practice panning for gold in, a mining tunnel, and lots of Gold Rush artifacts make this a fun stop for kids and adults. The docent greeting people when we visited was full of interesting stories, both about the Gold Rush era and how present day prospectors are still panning the nearby American River for gold.
The Gold Rush Museum is free, and open Friday through Sunday from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
